Why Carissa Harper Loves Seattle So Much

Kathleen and Reyna

Kathleen and Reyna, the mother-daughter writing team of Carissa Harper, feel fortunate to live in the Pacific Northwest. Seattle, with its vibrant energy and rich culture, is a city they love to visit. So what better location to set their series, Single in Seattle?

Mother-daughter shopping trips to the Emerald City have long been a favorite getaway. Who doesn’t love checking out Nordstrom’s latest offerings or browsing through the charming used bookstores found around Pike Place Market? Surely there’s room for one more on the shelf.

As a foodie, Kathleen never tires of exploring the restaurants and wine bars the city has to offer. Along with many new contenders, Wild Ginger remains a favorite. Those steamed buns with fragrant duck? To die for! And tucked away in a little French bistro, they both agree, is where they have had the best pomme frites outside of Paris.

Reyna’s love of music and museums collided when Settle opened the Experience Music Project (now the MoPOP). Kathleen was very patient as Reyna lingered over each of the displays. On another trip they caught the very memorable cirque and cabaret dinner at Teatro ZinZanni. And they have never seen a bad band at Dimitriou’s Jazz alley.

You can bet the pair plans to be back wandering through Seattle’s special neighborhoods in the not-too-distant future. Plotting a new book.
